Easily the most successful driver at Delaware Speedway for the last ¼ of a century, Steve Robblee (#28) of Dorchester, will again be looking for checkered flags in 2012 aboard his FT Garage Late Model.
Over the years, Robblee has captured nine track championships, over 100 Delaware feature wins, three victories in The Great Canadian 200, not to mention two CASCAR titles, and six Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup titles, but one of the highlights came early in Steve’s career. After missing the first two races of the season following an appendectomy, he returned to action and when 17 features in a row to overcome Jack Monaghan for the title.
The last time Robblee made an assault on a track championship he won not only the track title, but the NASCAR Whelen Provincial crown as well, and he’s excited about the season. “I’m looking forward to racing after sitting last year out. Matt did a great job filling in for me last year, and it’s always fun to go to the track and race with him, even if we’re in different classes.”
As for the offseason ownership changes, Robblee said, “The group seems to have done a good job on the track. The improvements in turns three and four are good, and you can get down to the bottom. It should improve as we get more rubber on it.”
The 49-year old will be sponsored by Big Box Mobile, Edward Fuels, and Federated Insurance.
When a sports team has four championships, their fans refer to the next title chase as ‘one for the thumb’, but Robblee will take it further looking for ‘one for the other thumb’ in 2012.
