Race Recap: Sportsman Cup, OSCAAR Mods, Trucks
Friday, June 21, 2013
While his car would not win a beauty contest after tonight’s racing, Jake Ott (#60) of Ayr would muscle his machine up to the front to take the win in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Tirecraft 100. Ott took the lead late in the race. It was not until lap 95 that he was able to take control of the event from race leader Shawn McGlynn (#81). By the time he got to the front Ott had already tore off the front fender from his race car after contact with Dan Prudhomme (#96) of Ingersoll. Finishing second in the race was Josh Wood (#66) who led the majority of the race laps 3-65. Third place went to Shawn McGlynn.
It was a blast from the past for the OSCAAR Modifieds who ran what is being widely described as their best event ever on Friday evening. Jamie Cox (#3) of Dorchester went to victory lane making a high pass on Justin DeMelo (#82) of London with two laps to go. DeMelo had led the entire race to that point with Cox picking off drivers one at a time on route to the front. DeMelo finished second third was Gary McLean who was the two-time event winner at Delaware last season. The race had two cautions.
Gary Adriaensen (#55) of Belmont was back to his winning ways on Friday in the Demar Aggregates trucks. It was an all-truck race with no support from the V8 stocks tonight because of the GAW Recycling Enduro competition scheduled for tomorrow night. Trevor Collver (#51) of Lucan stuck close to Adriaensen, getting close at times but not able to effectively mount a challenge. The race, however, was not incident-free. Hard racing and contact between Brady Smith (#39) of Coldstream and James Marche (#6) led to some words in the infield during post-race and perhaps the arrival of a new rivalry in the truck series.
Racing continues tomorrow night at 7:00 pm with the GAW Recycling Enduro & Bone Stock Chaos Cars. Spectator gates open at 6:00 pm. The evening will also feature the vehicles of the High School Challenge running in the Bone Stock 50-lap event.
