Delaware Outlasts Mother Nature on July 20th
After a week off from weekly racing to allow the 12,000 pound monsters of Monster Truck Throwdown to tear up the facility, the TransAxle Super Stocks, Demar Aggregates Trucks, and Discounted Autoparts Depot and Supply Bone Stocks returned to action on cruise night.
Mother Nature forced qualifying to be cancelled so the lineups were set based on points standings with a dice inversion. The Discounted Autoparts Depot and Supply Bone Stocks were up first as the track was still slightly damp with Craig Cole (#55) on the pole with Bill Brekelmans (#007) to his high side. Brian Brooks (#36) wrecked off of turn for with one lap complete to bring out the yellow flag early. Brekelmans emerged with the lead on the restart as the battles heated up behind. Derek Moesker (#51) slowed on lap 21 while running in second position just before Joe Kicks (#12) was sent to the inside wall bringing out the yellow flag for the second time. A chaotic restart saw Bill Brekelmans hold on for the victory ahead of team driver Brent Pelley (#7) and Jordan Morris (#73).
Tom Zagorodny (#77) started on the pole for the first Demar Aggregates Truck Series feature beside Mickey Brydges (#55). The caution was shown with one lap complete as Will Marche (#15) tangled with Connor Van Steensel (71). A parts failure on Connor Van Steensel’s truck brought out the caution on lap 5 as he pounded the back straightaway wall. Tom Zagorodny would score the win as Lucas Manning and Mickey Brydges finished behind. Randy Thompson’s #1 truck went up in smoke off of turn four on lap 21 bringing out the caution flag. Zagorodny would survive the restart for the win with Manning and Brydges behind.
Andrew Ferreira (#9) and Matt Robblee (#51) led the field of TransAxle Super Stocks to green for the first 25 lap feature race. Ferreira led early and opened up a lead as several drivers battled behind for second spot. Debris on the front straightaway brought out the yellow flag on lap 9, erasing a near two second lead for Ferreira. There was near disaster at the halfway point as Gary Adriaensen and Matt Robblee made contact, however both drivers hung on as David McCullough (#39) snuck past for second. Ferreira would win the event with McCullough and Adriaensen finishing in second and third respectively.
Dan Storey (#61) and Jay Chappell (#17) started on the front row for the second Discounted Autoparts Depot and Supply Bone Stock feature race. Storey led the first eight laps before Bill Brekelmans took over the spot. The race went clean for the first half as drivers raced side by side through much of the top 10. A caution came out with one lap to go, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. Derek Moesker took the lead on the restart, but it would be Bill Brekelmans getting back around him to sweep the night for the division. Moesker and Dan Storey rounded out the podium spots.
Jacob Campbell led the field of Demar Aggregates Trucks to green for their final feature of the night. Rob Windis led the opening lap of the race and opened up a sizeable lead right away. There was trouble on lap two as Will Marche tangled with Jacob Campbell and the two crash down the front straightaway. Tom Zagorodny took the race lead on lap 10 after a side by side battle with Windis. Zagorodny would sweep the night, winning the race ahead of Rob Windis and Mickey Brydges.
The final race of the evening was a 25 lap event for the TransAxle Super Stocks, which saw Kathleen Green (#16) on the pole. Rick Verberne (#21) led the opening six laps before Gary Adriaensen took the spot with an inside line pass. The caution flag came out on lap 12 and set up for an exciting second half. Matt Robblee went around on lap 13 to bring out another caution flag. Trevor Collver went around on lap 16 to bring out another yellow flag, once again with Adriaensen on the point. Gary Adriaensen would drive to victory lane with Andrew Ferreira and David McCullough in podium spots.
The next event at Delaware Speedway is Friday, July 27th with the Case ’N Drum Oil/MRE Late Models, Doxtator Property Maintenance V8 Stocks, and Discounted Autoparts Depot and Supply Bone Stocks on the card along with a fan favourite King of the Hill Spectators Race. Advance tickets are available on www.DelawareSpeedway.com for the event. The scheduled start time is 7:30pm.
